DR.ZETI AS A LEADER

Dr. Zeti is the one and only woman in Asia who holds the portfolio as a central bank’s governor, and is also one of the very few women in the world appointed to the highly regarded position. She hold the first place in the top 10 of The Most Inspiring Women in Malaysia. Behind every great leader there is a great central banker. Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz is a great central banker.

She has been serving the Bank for more than 20 years.  In 2003, Euromoney named Dr Zeti as Central Bank Governor of the Year for her role in the reform of the exchange rate, the capital markets, and the banking industry. 3 years before that, she was made the list of ‘the most powerful women in the finance industry’ as was released by the international magazine, Global Finance.

Dr.Zeti has shows her leadership skills when managing her work. Leaders are actually train, not born. I strongly believe in order to become a good leader we first need to be a good follower. Good leaders set good examples for their subordinates and others to follow. If we cannot manage ourselves and are unclear on what we stand for, we definitely cannot expect other people to follow us. Under Dr.zeti’ leadership, she manage to improve Malaysian financial system and contributed to a competitive, diverse, comprehensive and inclusive financial system. Not only that, in a decade, she also manage to  increase Islamic banking assets up to 21 per cent, thus over 100 domestic and international Islamic financial institutions are enable to operate in Malaysia. At the international level, one and only women who being a governor, had contributed to the global acceptance of Islamic finance. This includes leading an international team in preparing the Financial Stability and Islamic Finance report, as well as chairing the Islamic Financial Services Board, an international agency for setting prudent monetary policy for Islamic financial institutions worldwide.
